TREMEC Transmissions: Great Product - Great Company - Great Sponsor
AutoStar Productions, Inc. producers of the Super Chevy Show have always been extremely proud to represent our wonderful sponsors at our events. We provide our sponsors with a great opportunity to meet directly with their consumers to demonstrate their products, answer questions and finally sell their products at every Super Chevy Show across the country.
For over six years, I have had the privilege to work with one of the finest companies that I have ever had the pleasure to work for - TREMEC Transmissions. TREMEC is the Title Sponsor of the TREMEC Car Show Series as well as the TREMEC True Street Challenge.
TREMEC's 5 and 6 speed manual transmissions are in a league above all others! From the design, precision machine cut gears, multiple shifter locations and overall workmanship - a TREMEC Transmission is comparable to a fine Swiss watch. TREMEC Transmissions are used in the new ZR1 Corvettes and several other high horsepower automobiles. They also are a leader in the new trend of car builders and enthusiasts who are replacing automatic transmissions with manual transmissions in many different types of performance cars.
TREMEC Transmissions is one of the most active sponsors that I have seen attending every event on our schedule. Since 2004, they have supplied a new 5-speed transmission to one lucky person who participated in the TREMEC Car Show Series at each and every event.
While attending the Super Chevy Show in 2009, take the time to visit the TREMEC display and meet their knowledgeable TREMEC team to learn more about their fantastic line of transmissions.

A major part of the heat and A/C system is the heater core. The heater core looks like a mini radiator and transfers heat from the engine coolant to the interior of the car. Coolant dripping from under the dashboard, coolant smell, and fogged up (slimy feeling) windows are all signs that the heater core is leaking. A new heater core is usually a relatively inexpensive part, but on many vehicles a lot of time and labor is needed for replacement.
Unfortunately, the new heater core and subsequent new heater cores may fail quickly if electrolysis is occuring in the cooling system. Electrolysis happens when there is a faulty electrical ground connection somewhere in the engine. Electrolysis ionizes and acidifies the coolant which causes metal to be removed from the heater core. The result is pinhole leaks. Electrolysis can be reduced or eliminated by installing a ground wire between the heater core and the car body and by making sure that any existing ground straps are making a good electrical connection. Scraping away a little paint or using a serrated nut will often do the trick. Also be sure to flush the cooling system and use new coolant.
Find heater cores under Heat & Air Conditioning in the RockAuto.com catalog. www.rockauto.com

E2009 Corvette Z06: Excellent Speed and Performance for the Price
At a price of $73,255 (that's including a destination charge of $850), the 2009 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 delivers excellent power for the dollar with a 7-liter LS7 (427 cubic inches of displacement) producing 505 hp at 6,300 rpm and 470 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,800 rpm. The overall performance specs are more than satisfying:
o Zero to 60 in 3.7 seconds.
o Sixty to zero braking, 111.3 feet.
o Quarter mile in 11.7 seconds at 125 mph.
o Top speed, 198 mph.
o Maximum lateral grip 1.04 g.
Add to that, a nice list of racing elements:
o 10.5 quart dry-sump oiling system
o high-lift cam
o aluminum flat-top pistons
o 11.01:1 compression
o ported aluminum cylinder heads
o titanium connecting rods and intake valves
o hydrofoamed exhaust heads
The Z06 has a 105.7 inch wheelbase. It come standard with a six-speed manual short-throw shifter. (There is no option for an automatic, and really, would you want one on a Vette?) Fuel economy, given the fact that this is hardly the kind of car you buy when you're looking for efficiency is respectable at 15 mpg around town and 24 mpg on the highway.
Design-wise, the 2009 does not disappoint. Up front look for a functional hood scoop. They've blacked out the egg-crate grille, which is wide-mouthed and imposing. The ten-spoke wheels are 18-inches front, 19-inches rear. Each front carbon fiber fender bears the Z06 badging. Moving over the rounded contours of the roof, the rear fenders sport a pronounced flair and each has a cooling scoop. The tail has been slightly trimmed down and the exhaust outlets are dual double-barrels. The desk spoiler, according to most reviews is "stubby" but sharp and right for the overall profile.
Although slammed for less than stellar interiors in the past, the 2009 Corvette's cockpit is well crafted. Leather seats are standard with an option for two-tone leather on the door skins and dash. Both the lower instrument panel and door panels are color matched. The cargo area, accessed by a hatch back, offers a respectable 22 cubic feet of space. Other standards include steering wheel audio controls and variable steering ratio.
Is the Z06 the hottest Corvette on the road for 2009? No. That nod will go to the ZR1 set to appear later this year at a smoking 620 hp thanks to a supercharged small block V8. But is the Z06 good value for the money? Absolutely. Reviewers characterize the ride as firm and a pleasure for day-to-day driving -- make that a thrill for a day on the open track. Another winner in a long line of legendary beauties.
Tony Rogowski
Tony Rogowski out of Marietta, GA is this week's "Your Ride" feature for the 2009 29th Annual Super Chevy Show Tour. Tony is the proud owner of a 1950 Chevy 3100 with a very unique history.
This 1950 Chevy 3100 was given to 2003 Playmate of the Year - Dalene Kurtis by Hugh Heffner.
Tony wrote, "This 1950 Chevy 3100 was given to 2003 Playmate of the Year Dalene Kurtis by Hugh Heffner. She received a Harley and the Little Red Truck and couldn’t drive either one of them and she promptly sold them both. I purchased it from the fellow she sold it to in 2006. I have added front disc brakes, re-wired the electrical harness and recently swapped out engine from the original 216 to a 1954 - 235 Inline Six - when the original engine gave up the ghost. Get a lot of great comments from girls who remember good times in trucks like this back when they were 16. The only problem is they are 75 now!(HA!) Looks Good – Drives Slow. Just fine by me."
Special thanks to Royal Purple for sponsoring this class in the TREMEC Car Show Series!
