 Doug Winters Doug Winters has been in professional drag racing for over 16 years. Doug and his family founded Winters Racing in 1992. They started out with a '56 Chevy bracket car at the local tracks in Central North Carolina. After a few years at the grass roots level of Drag Racing, they took there bracket car and move it into Hot Rod Sportsman class in IHRA. This provided them the necessary experience to move to the highest level of Sportsman Racing, IHRA's Top Sportsman Class. They then bought a proven tube chassis '55 Chevy and competed it on the IHRA series for two years. They won a number of races and finished in the top ten for the points championship in 1996. With this additional experience of speed and competition, they sold the '55 Chevy for a Professional class race car. They bought a '58 Corvette. During this same time frame, 1997, Super Chevy came out with a new class, Nitro Coupes. This class caught their attention. They decided to put both feet forward into Nitro Coupes. Since that time, they have became very competitive winning many races! Their last full season in 2002 include 8 Nitro Coupe event wins, a number of runner ups, and finishing 2nd in the Nitro Coupe Points Championship. After taking a few years off from the sport, Doug and his team returned in 2007 with a new Nitro Coupe '57 Chevy. During 2007, they started back right where they left off. They have already posted two Runner Ups and other round wins.
